Navigate Vast Public Library Resources With Dale Ivan Smith
Literary giant Virginia Woolf said, “I ransack public libraries and find them full of sunk treasures.” Conjuring up visions of marauding divers gliding expertly between the pillars of civilization’s citadels of information, Woolf’s metaphor suggests treasures are accessible and easy to spot. In today’s extensive network, consisting of tiny local branch libraries, large university hubs, and vast stores of online information, such solo deep dives may leave many writers feeling frustrated and ineffective. We need divemasters familiar with the limitless terrain who can guide us to the treasures we seek. Fortunately, we have such masters in expert research librarians!
About Dale Ivan Smith:
Dale Ivan Smith has worked at four branch libraries during his 32 years with the Multnomah County Library System. Join him on May 21st from 2 pm to 3:30 pm when he presents to the Willamette Writer’s (WW) Coast Chapter via Zoom meeting. Smith loves helping readers and writers navigate the vast flow of information available to them, empowering them to use the library system to their full advantage. The author of seven self-published fantasy novels including his five-book Empowered series, and a variety of stories in Street Spells and High Moon anthologies, Perihelion Science Fiction, as well as Everyday Fiction, 10Flash Quarterly, and Toasted Cake, Smith’s expertise is well suited to guide writers and authors through the vast depths of online, and electronic research information.

About your chapter
Willamette Writers meetings are open to all writers, 18 and up. Young writers are encouraged to join our Young Willamette Writers meetings. Guests are welcome to make a donation to help support the cost of the meeting (we believe in paying our speakers for their time and skills). This meeting is run by volunteers. We look forward to seeing you there!
MASKING: Willamette Writers continues to require mask-wearing at our in-person, indoor meetings. If you are unable to mask, we invite you to join us at one of our online Chapter Meetings. Here is a link to our policies.
