Online: Screenwriters Happy Hour
October 12 @ 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm
Join us for Screenwriters Happy Hour and Pitch Your Work!
At the 2022 Willamette Writers Conference, the FilmLab scripts were read aloud by very talented SAG actors, and the reaction was overwhelmingly positive. For a screenwriter, there’s nothing like hearing your work read by professional actors, so we’ve decided to give more writers that opportunity.
This winter, Willamette Writers, in conjunction with the Screen Actors Guild of Portland, will present six 10-minute short scripts. Here’s how to have your material considered to be read aloud:
It begins with pitching your project at this month’s WW Screenwriters Happy Hour (which will take place on Zoom at 5pm on October 12th – Sign-up to receive Zoom info below). The pitch should include a BRIEF overview of your project, and then specify what scene or scenes you would write for the read-through…up to 10 pages maximum.
The attendees of the October 12th Happy Hour will then vote on the pitches and the top vote getters will be invited to submit their pages to be read by SAG performers.
We want this to be new material…at least new to us, so don’t pitch something you’ve already submitted for consideration for other WW contests.
The scene/scenes will be limited to a maximum of six characters and should not be action heavy. We want to hear your words, not a lot of stage direction.
Please note that the writers who participated in the 2022 FilmLab are not eligible for this contest, since they had their work read last month. However, those writers will be eligible for upcoming script readings.
Finally, since the mission of Willamette Writers is to enrich the writing experience for all, this opportunity is open to all writers, not just to WW members.
We can’t wait to hear your pitch!
