YWW Hybrid: Comics with James Art Ville
October 22, 2022 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am
YWW presents James Art Ville
How to Tell a Story with Sequential Art: Comics
Before the written language, humans crafted a system of record-keeping and storytelling using nothing but illustrations. While the written word has since become the dominant method of non-verbal communication, the integration of both methodologies has the profound and unique ability to engage the reader to a degree that neither one does alone. There is a connotation that comics as considered nothing more than flashy children’s stories, filled with caped heroes and fire-breathing dragons. Comics is a medium, not a genre. James Art Ville breaks down the mechanics of sequential art and how this overlooked literary medium is making a comeback in the modern day.
About James Art Ville –
Local graphic designer and digital illustrator, James Art Ville, combines his passion for drawing and computer technology to create digital art. His background in design has allowed him the privilege of creating book covers for authors, as well as taking on the role of editor and interior designer. His colorful style takes inspiration from the classic cartoons, comics, and Japanese anime of his youth.
