Willamette Writers Salem presents Open Mic In-Person!
Open Mics are a chance to share your work with fellow writers. We will be meeting in-person (not online) on Saturday, February 4th, at the Salem Public Library in the Plaza Room, from 10 am to 12 pm. This is the first time we’ve done this in the Salem Chapter, so we’ve asked the Corvallis Chapter for suggestions. Here’s how it works: Anyone is welcome to share their work. Family-friendly only. If a reader feels the piece needs a “trigger” or content warning, then maybe this isn’t the place to share it. 7 minutes per reader. This is enough for maybe 700-1100 words or 3-4 poems. There may be an opportunity to share a second reading if time permits. At the beginning of the meeting sign up on the sign-up sheet. It will be first come first serve. List your name, the title of your work, and the genre. We will have a timer who gives a 1-minute warning and a cutoff if needed. An emcee will announce the reader, their genre, and who is “on deck.” We clap for everyone. No feedback is given. Come, share your work, and enjoy the applause. You’ve worked hard. It’s good to have that acknowledged sometimes.
About your chapter meetings
Willamette Writers meetings are open to all writers, 18 and up. Guests are welcome to make a donation to help support the cost of the meeting (we believe in paying our speakers for their time and skills). This meeting is run by volunteers. We look forward to seeing you there!
MASKING: Willamette Writers continues to require mask-wearing at our in-person, indoor meetings. If you are unable to mask, we invite you to join us at one of our online Chapter Meetings. Here is a link to our policies.
