Author Rivera Sun – Explores How Writers Call People to Action: Stories for a Changing World
Tumultuous times draw out the heroic in the most unlikely candidates, but where do human beings find the roadmaps as they contemplate their own hero’s journey? Author/activist Rivera Sun believes that writers are uniquely suited to provide them. Join the Willamette Writer’s Coastal and Corvallis Chapters via Zoom on Monday, March 28 at 6:30 pm as she delves into the writer’s ability to embolden readers to become change-makers through the stories we tell. She will guide us through how to create compelling characters for our times, portray protest movements with authenticity and integrity, and illustrate how writers can propose powerful visions for the world(s) to come.
About Author Rivera Sun
As a speculative fiction author Sun imagines a good story can prepare people to envision a radically different future (for better or for worse). Her many books and novels, including The Dandelion Insurrection and the award-winning Ari Ara Series, and her essays syndicated by PeaceVoice, illustrate the transformational power of nonviolence in human conflict and protest movements. As an activist, Sun lives out this philosophy through her work as the editor of Nonviolence News, as an organizer and programs coordinator for Pace e Bene’s Campaign Nonviolence, through service on the boards of Backbone Campaign and World Beyond War, and as a trainer in nonviolence practices. We will learn how she’s utilized her award-winning young adult fantasy series to upend all the tropes of her genre’s approach to conflicts. Bring all of your burning questions and comments on these themes to this event and learn how to change people, and worlds, through the stories we create.

Writers from anywhere in Oregon or beyond can participate via Zoom.
