Willamette Writers Corvallis Online Presents
Performance Poetry 101: Reading Poetry (and Prose) like a Pro with SETH
Learn to master the fundamentals of reciting poetry (and prose) and engaging an audience. The Corvallis Chapter of Willamette Writers features an online presentation by SETH, one of Colorado’s best-known performance poets, on Monday, November 28, 2022, 6:30 PM – 8:30 PM ONLINE. Free and open to the public. Zoom details below.
SETH will give tips on pulling your listener in and strategies to hold their attention through to the end of any open mic or featured reading. This workshop will offer practical techniques to hone your presentation skills, win over your audience, and deliver text so as to keep your listener engaged from start to finish. You’ll also hear suggestions on how to take performance poetry to the next level.
SETH has made a career carving out creative ways of presenting poetry, with attention paid to both craft and performance. An actor and percussionist as well as a poet and fiction writer, SETH has collaborated with countless musicians, poets, actors, dancers, and other performance artists for more than 30 years in his never-ending quest to render poetry more entertaining to general audiences.
SETH is the author of A Black Odyssey, a poetic memoir about his experiences as a Black poet in contemporary America. His short stories have appeared in numerous literary magazines. His satirical novel, The Perfect Stranger, received the Award of Excellence from the Colorado Authors League and first place in literary fiction from the Colorado Independent Publishers Association.
