We are pleased to share this new interview with you because it is with someone very special: Karen Cushman, a young adult writer who won a Newbery Award and a Newbery Honor, as well as many other awards in her long and brilliant career. Salli, and our daughter Cassidy, were big fans of her work when Cassidy was in middle school, but Karen’s well-researched historical novels can be read at almost any age.

The story about how she began writing professionally will sound familiar to many of us: someone else got tired or hearing her tell stories and instead insisted she write them down. But once she began writing her tales on paper, life changed, and we’re sure you’ll enjoy hearing from her about that process and her art.
