New Young Willamette Writers Chapter

Our New Young Willamette Writers Chapter at Oregon Youth Authority

Happy Holidays! We hope your winter is full of warmth, joy, and words.

Young Willamette Writers helps cultivate a love of reading and writing

We are so pleased to announce the launch of our new Young Willamette Writers Chapter at the Oregon Youth Authority in Southern Oregon.

We believe this chapter will give young writers a chance to tell their story and expand their horizons. As YWW Chair Heather Ransom says, “Young Willamette Writers helps cultivate a love of reading and lifelong learning, which is vital for teens to develop as they work toward becoming successful, responsible community members.”

We are proud and excited to share our love of writing at the Oregon Youth Authority this year. We can’t wait to work with OYA teens to help them build a stronger future. Our Young Willamette Writers Co-Chairs have seen how YWW has helped students find their voice, and continues to make an impact on their writing and reading throughout their lives.

If you’d like to make a donation to Young Willamette Writers programming, now would be the perfect time. Your donation will help make a big difference — supporting young writers and expanding their worlds with new words.

Our Portland and Southern Oregon Young Willamette Writers have been steeped in story this year. They’ve been writing poems, learning from published authors, and diving deeper into the craft of writing.

Ransom explains that the YWW members have made “valuable connections through reading and writing to their lives and to the world all around them.”

This year, we’ve seen their work in the Young Willamette Writers Journal, and we couldn’t be prouder of their accomplishments.

If you’d like to send a letter of encouragement to one of our young writers, please address it to:
