Masks in the Attic: A half-day urban writing and mask-play retreat

Come play and write together on Saturday, August 11 from 1 to 5.

We will have at our disposal some powerful, funny, scary, quirky, and beautiful masks for you to choose and try on — in the attic. Each of us will take turns choosing a mask, then come down to the writer’s circle where we will explore and learn a little bit about who you may be and who we might see.

Then we will write, using the Amherst Writer’s and Artist’s approach to enter into the world of the mask and of our own delightful imaginations.

Masks in the Attic
A half-day urban writing and mask-play retreat
Saturday, August 11, 2018 from 1pm-5pm

Are you intrigued by masks? Do you have a bit of the performer in your bones or your heart, or some willingness to “feel out” the energy of a mask that calls to you in some way?

As I work and play to combine writing with other realms of experience, I have stumbled upon the idea of using masks to explore ways of being that can inspire our writing. You are hereby invited to join me in an afternoon experiment!

We will have at our disposal some powerful, funny, scary, quirky, and beautiful masks for you to choose and try on — in the attic. Each of us will take turns choosing a mask, then will come down to the writer’s circle where we will explore and learn a little bit about who you may be and who we might see.

Next, we will write, using the Amherst Writer’s and Artist’s approach to enter into the world of the mask and of our own delightful imaginations.

~Masks, queries, and other prompts will be offered for inspiration.
~You are invited to share as much or as little of your impromptu writing as you wish.
~Bring your favorite writing implement, journal and anything else to support your comfort.
~Tea, coffee, water and snacks are provided for your creative sustenance.
~We write in a cozy space in SE Portland.
~I will provide masks you can choose from. You may also bring one or more of your own masks that you would like to explore for yourself or share with others.

In the spirit of this being an experiment, I am charging just $30 for the afternoon. Please let me know as soon as possible of your interest, as space is limited. For more information contact: (e-mail preferred) Ruth Leibowitz at dr.leibq@hotmail.com, or 503-927-5714.
