Trini Sánchez’s mom hates to cook and they eat out so much that Trini considers school lunch as haute cuisine. Trini’s dad died when she was young, which was also the time her mom began to dislike cooking. When her mom is loses her job, Trini must live with her unconventional grandparents in a smaller town and go to a new middle school, not to mention find new friends and get the attention of a cute but shy boy. Grandma loves to cook and decides to teach Trini family recipes. Reluctant at first, Trini comes to understand the magic of cooking for people you love, and hopes to pass that lesson on to her mom.

Trini’s Magic Kitchen is a story of heart, family and good food and how they can be interchangeable. It includes recipes passed on to me by my parents and grandparents.” – Patricia Santos Marcantonio

TRINI’S MAGIC KITCHEN is published by Piñata Press, an imprint of Arte Público Press, which is affiliated with the University of Houston.
