About Waka Brown

Waka is a Stanford graduate with a B.A. in International Relations and a Master’s in Secondary Education. She is the author of three middle-grade books: While I Was Away (Quill Tree/HarperCollins 2021) is her debut novel. Dream, Annie, Dream (Quill Tree/HarperCollins 2022) is her first work of historical fiction. The Very Unfortunate Wish of Melony Yoshimura (Quill Tree Books/HarperCollins 2023) is her third middle-grade novel. She also has a picture book called Perfect that will be published on October 1st of this year. She lives in West Linn with her husband, three teenage boys, and one naughty—but cute!—shiba named Niko. She has a sweet tooth, and one of her favorite desserts is a yellow cake with whipped cream and fresh strawberries.
