Writing for All Kids: Including Diversity and Difficult Subjects in Our Books
Do you want to write for kids, but don’t know where to begin? Spoiler alert: It doesn’t matter where you are on your writing journey, and an MFA is not required!
Details: April 17, online and in-person, doors open at 6PM, meeting starts at 6:15PM
We’ll talk about the different types of books in traditional publishing, from wee ones to young adults; themes and topics in kids’ books, including difficult subjects; and how all writers can embrace diversity in their stories. We’ll also discuss the action steps to take to get published. This workshop includes interactive conversations, resource recommendations to help along your journey, and time for Q&A.

About Sonja Thomas
Sonja Thomas (she/her), a recovering CPA ruled by coffee and cats, writes stories for readers of all ages. A 2023 Oregon Book Awards finalist, Sir Fig Newton and the Science of Persistence is “a noteworthy debut” (Kirkus Reviews, starred review). She’s also a contributing author for Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls: 100 Real-Life Tales of Black Girl Magic. Her next middle grade novel is scheduled for publication in 2024 from Simon & Schuster. Raised in Central Florida —home of the wonderful world of Disney, humidity, and hurricanes—and a Washington, DC transplant for 11 years (go Nats!), she’s now “keeping it weird” in the Pacific Northwest.
