Sándor Lau of Eugene, Ore. has won second prize in the nonfiction category of the Kay Snow Writing Contest held by Willamette Writers. Lau and other winners were announced at the annual Willamette Writers Conference banquet, Saturday Aug. 2 at the Lloyd Center Doubletree Portland.
Lau’s winning piece, “Sándor’s Oregon Trail,” is an excerpt from his upcoming book, Sándor’s Oregon Trail, which will also be accompanied by a documentary series and is currently seeking a publisher. The piece was also a finalist in the San Francisco Writing Contest. Lau is an award-winning filmmaker and writer who walked across northern New Zealand to make his film Sándor’s New Zealand Trail.
