As part of “A New Poetry” series, the Eugene Downtown Initiative For The Visual Arts (DIVA) announces an upcoming poetry night featuring poet Carter McKenzie.

On Sat., Oct. 12, at 7:30 p.m., McKenzie reads from her recent works. The poetry sessions are held at DIVA 280 W. Broadway, Eugene, and the series is hosted and coordinated by Tim Shaner. Donations welcome.

Carter McKenzie’s poems have appeared in a number of anthologies and journals, including What the River Brings: Oregon River Poems, The Whistling Fire, and Canary: a Literary Journal of the Environmental Crisis. One of her poems was presented as a broadside as part of the environmental exhibit Silent Witness at Maude Kerns Art Center in May 2012. McKenzie was also honored that spring to have one of her pieces included in the installation Step into Poetry, a display of 9 panels of poems in the stairwell of Eugene’s Overpark North garage.

A founding member of the poetry collective Airlie Press, Carter is the author of the chapbook Naming Departure (Traprock Books, 2004) and the full-length book of poetry Out of Refusal (Airlie Press, 2010). She teaches poetry workshops to middle school and high school students in Eugene and surrounding rural areas.
