Southern Oregon Willamette Writers Presents

Publish or Perish!

Book Publishing Panel Discussion

Saturday, June 7, 10 am to Noon (and afternoon workshop below)

Legacy Publishing? Subsidy Publishing? Self-Publishing?

Confused? You should be. With the contraction of traditional publishing houses, the rise of fee-based presses, and the explosion of new electronic options for self-publishing, the opportunities (and pitfalls) for authors have never been greater—or more overwhelming!

Five authors with diverse publishing experiences will help you understand the options:

Marni Bates: Soon after publishing her autobiography at age 19, Bates scored a multi- book with Kensington Teen. Her debut novel, Awkward, has been translated into four languages and optioned by Disney for a television film.

Molly Best Tinsley: Winner of the Oregon Book Award and the Sandstone Prize, Tinsley has published with Houghton Mifflin, St. Martin’s and Ohio State Presses. She is the co-founder of Fuze Publishing, an independent press representing 14 authors.

Cheryl Colwell: Colwell dedicated the last seven years to mastering the world of independent publishing. Her self-published contemporary suspense novels are available through Amazon and have been included in the anthology Taste and See. Ken Goddard: During his 30 year writing career, the New York Times bestselling crime suspense author has published 11 books through traditional publishing houses including Bantam, Tor, Random House, and Simon and Schuster.

Midge Raymond: Co-founder of Ashland Creek Press, Raymond’s Forgetting English won the Spokane Prize for Short Fiction. Her stories have appeared in North American Review, American Literary Review, and the Los Angeles Times magazine.

    Hi,
I am responding to a article in the paper concerning a workshop for this Saturday. Is it on? If so, how do I register or can I do it at the door? Caroline
