Timberline Review History
The Timberline Review was founded in 2015 by Willamette Writers members Peter Field and Pam Wells. The late, great Brian Doyle warned them of the foolhardiness of starting a new literary magazine, but met with resolute smiles, he agreed to submit a short story—the first of several that would appear in the journal. With the help of volunteer readers, contributors, independent booksellers, and the Northwest literary community, the new publication quickly earned a reputation for excellence.
Today, the journal continues to explore new forms, new works, and new worlds while expanding opportunities for volunteer learning and engagement. Guided by the spirit of curiosity and collaboration that inspired its founding, The Timberline Review offers writers a chance to look behind the curtain of publishing while fostering connections among readers, editors, booksellers, and literary organizations. Through their shared work, contributors and volunteers help sustain a vibrant literary community in the Pacific Northwest and beyond.
