Katherine Quevedo is thrilled to announce the publication of Extra Lives in Verse, a chapbook of video game poetry available from Manawaker Studio. In Extra Lives in Verse, the Elgin Award-winning poet draws parallels from her own life to the video games that shaped her over the years. Uncover the pentiment in a medieval Bavarian monastery, disappear from a relationship like a Pac-munched ghost, go grocery shopping with digital megalomaniacs, solidify love on the high seas, and collect Chaos Emeralds along the way.
Quevedo’s poems trace an emotional history through the characters and moments that carried the most weight at different points in her life. “Quevedo’s insight into the emotional core of classic and modern video games is remarkable,” said CB Droege, Editor-in-Chief of Manawaker Studio. “She finds the truth behind some of gaming’s most iconic characters and memorable moments in a way that’s both poignant and relatable. It’s clear she has a deep personal connection to these games, and real thought behind how they tie into her own life.”
Katherine Quevedo was born and raised near Portland, Oregon, where she works as an analyst and lives with her husband and two sons. She is the author of the Elgin Award-winning poetry chapbook The Inca Weaver’s Tales (Sword & Kettle Press, 2024), the fantasy novella Thrice Petrified (Of Metal and Magic Publishing, 2025), and a forthcoming full-length poetry collection from Interstellar Flight Press.
Extra Lives in Verse, her latest release, is available to order in paperback and ebook. Uncover the pentiment in a medieval Bavarian monastery, disappear from a relationship like a Pac-munched ghost, go grocery shopping with digital megalomaniacs, solidify love on the high seas, and collect Chaos Emeralds along the way.”
