Communities

From Vancouver to Grants Pass, down the coast and onto Zoom, Willamette Writers is here for you, with over 350 free and open to the public events a year.

In-Person

Willamette Writers hosts meetings across Oregon and Southwest Washington. We offer workshops, meetings, networking, and critiques in eight regional writing communities (we call them chapters) and one teen community. We also meet regularly at our Willamette Writers Writing Center. If you’re new to Willamette Writers, don’t worry! Every Willamette Writers in-person chapter meeting is free and open to the public. You can walk in, sit down, and work on your writing with us. We are here for you. You can find out more about our chapters here, or head to our events calendar.

Online

Whether you’re looking for help with your screenwriting, productivity, or just want to share a cup of coffee and commiserate, Willamette Writers is here for you. We meet over Zoom for coffee, critiques, conversations, and connections. You can join our screenwriting chapter to learn about writing for the screen, or pop into our write-ins to get words on the page in the company of fellow scribes. Our Zoom meetings are always free and open to the public. You can find out more about our meetings here, or find your Zoom link on the calendar.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are meetings really free?

Yes! All the meetings on our calendar are free and open to the public. The Conference does cost money to attend, but every other event on our calendar (over 350!) is free and open to you, so stop in and meet your community.

Do I have to be a member?

No! Willamette Writers members support the Willamette Writers mission and community, but membership is not required to attend any of our meetings. Members make these meetings possible with their support.

Is there an age restriction?

We recommend teens and tweens in middle and high school attend our Young Willamette Writers meetings. Content in our regularly scheduled meetings is not appropriate for or tailored to students under 18. With that in mind, library meetings do not have age restrictions. Our online meetings, however, are 18 and up. We welcome teens and tweens to attend our Young Willamette Writers meetings!

Do I have to prepare for meetings?

No! Just bring yourself and your ideas. Some meeting descriptions will recommend you bring a current project or pages. Check the meeting events for details on an event before you head out the door or log-in. But even for events like critiques, you are welcome to attend without your own work, and learn from others. We would love to welcome you into our community.
