Master Class: How to Start Strong: The Principles and Practice of a Great Beginning

Thursday, August 1, 2019 @ 9:30 am - 3:30 pm

Please join us for this Master Class with DongWon Song.

In this workshop, DongWon Song examines the key components to consider in crafting the opening arc of your novel. We’ll discuss questions like:

  • How do you establish a clear voice and tone?
  • What are the key genre markers you want to communicate to your reader?
  • What story promises are you making and how does that affect your overall structure?
  • What keeps a reader engaged and carries them through the long arc of your story?

We’ll also discuss general principles and examples from recent commercial fiction. Come prepared with some favorite opening lines and scenes from recently published works.

Master classes are small, focused workshops, limited to 15 writers and presented by industry professionals. This Master Class is five hours long and includes lunch. You must register to attend Master Classes at an additional cost. Please register here.
