About Us

The Willamette Writers Conference… just  one of the many programs within the larger Willamette Writers organization.

Our upcoming 2019 conference marks the 50th consecutive year Willamette Writers has hosted one of the largest and most-beloved writing conferences in North America. We have worked tirelessly to reach our golden anniversary, providing a wide array of opportunities for writers to build their craft, meet successful professionals, and become part of a dynamic tribe of writers from all walks of life.

But wait, there is more to Willamette Writers than just the conference.

Willamette Writers is the largest active writers organization in the Pacific Northwest. Writers working in all genres and at all stages of their careers attend our meetings, annual conference, workshops, and other events to connect with their community, hone their craft, and advance their careers.

The Willamette Writers organization was founded in 1969 by Kay Snow, a Portland area writer. Her goal was to bring published and unpublished writers together in an environment of mutual help and support. It has been our mission over the last half-century to fulfill Kay’s vision by fostering a creative environment and support system for professional and aspiring writers alike.

Willamette Writers is based in Portland, OR with an administrative office in West Linn. The organization has chapters in Southern OregonMid-ValleySalemCorvallis, and on the Oregon Coast.

Willamette Writers offers extensive programming, including our annual writers conference, and offers its members a number of benefits.
