Hints and Tips from Jennifer Chambers & Pat Edwards of Groundwaters Publishing
You’ve always loved to write… and you are thinking about sidestepping traditional publishing to go with a self-publishing model. Jennifer and Pat will share pros, cons, preparation, and design, and give you a primer on marketing, from distribution to sales. They’ll discuss personal experiences, those of clients, and give you the secret on working with retail outlets, even big box stores. By the end of this talk you’ll have the information you need to decide if this is a route for you based on what you want for your book.
About Jennifer and Patricia:
Jennifer Chambers writes about strong women with bold stories. Chambers speaks nationally on self-advocacy, body love and on how the legacies of strong women in history contribute to activism today. She attended the University of Iowa Summer Writing Festival. The co-owner and Contributing Editor of Groundwaters Publishing is a survivor of traumatic brain injury, which forced her to re-learn everything from walking and talking to tying her shoes. She lives with her family in the Pacific Northwest and is learning to play bluegrass and Motown on her ukulele. Her life is fueled by coffee, family, music, and books. Her latest book is Remarkable Oregon Women: Revolutionaries & Visionaries (History Press).
Patricia Ann Edwards (aka Pat Edwards) is the author of two books on the history of Lorane, Oregon – Sawdust and Cider; A History of Lorane, Oregon and the Siuslaw Valley (1989) and From Sawdust and Cider to Wine (2006). She later took on the role of Managing Editor for the free literary quarterly, Groundwaters, which is published and distributed throughout Lane County, Oregon. She also writes a column for two small Lane County weeklies, the Fern Ridge Review and the Creswell Chronicle. Pat has worked with author Jo-Brew, a past contributor of Groundwaters, on the history of U.S. Highway 99. She served as editor and collaborator for Jo on the first book entitled OREGON’S MAIN STREET: U.S. Highway 99 “The Stories.” For the second one, OREGON’S MAIN STREET: U.S. Highway 99 “The Folk History,” she took the lead as co-author and added more research to its historical content.
