Vancouver Hybrid: Plotting Techniques with Alan E. Rose

September 19, 2022 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

Vancouver Chapter

“Plotting Techniques: Finding the story you want to tell, and then deciding how best to tell it.”

NOTE: New location – Cascade Community Park Library, 600 NE 136th Ave, Vancouver, WA 98684

This is a hybrid meeting: both online and in-person. Zoom details below.

Doors open at 6PM, presentation begins at 6:15PM

Most stories have a beginning, a middle, and an end–though they don’t necessarily have to be in that order. The same story can be told in a multitude of different ways. Plotting is the organizing of a story to achieve the writer’s desired effect, whether that is romance, humor, horror, suspense, tenderness, or tears.

This in-person and online workshop at Cascade Community Park Library (and on Zoom) is designed especially for the beginning writer, offering concepts, tools, and techniques to help the writer find the story, and then explore ways to most effectively tell it.

Included in the presentation will be:

1) Story Spinning–right- and left-brain techniques to generate a story from the seed of an idea.

2) Plot Playing–ways to disassemble a story by breaking it down into component parts, and then reassembling the parts in different combinations to achieve different effects.

3) Scenic Construction–ways to further organize the scenes of a story to enhance its emotional impact through the use of narrative arcs, pacing, and conflict.

Join your Vancouver Chapter for an evening of plotting this September 19th, doors open at 6:00PM.
