January 9, 2020 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm
Plotting All The Right Moves
Our meeting is on the second Thursday instead of the first Wednesday.
Heather Ames will be speaking to the Salem Chapter at the Scottish Rite Center on Thursday, January 9th, from 6:30 to 8:30. She will present ideas for using plot structure effectively to make your story flow and appeal to readers, whether it’s short or long fiction, memoir or other non-fiction.
About Heather Ames
Heather Ames has led a nomadic life in 5 countries and 7 states. After a long career in the healthcare industry, she finally achieved her dream of writing full-time and now lives in Salem.
A current board member for the Portland chapter of Sisters in Crime, she is also a member of Northwest Independent Writers (NIWA,) as well as Willamette Writers, and has been affiliated with Mystery Writers, Independent Writers of Southern California (IWOSC,) the Electronic Publishing Industry Coalition (EPIC,) and Toastmasters International. She was a board member for Alameda Writers Group in the L.A. area, and coordinated local and national conferences while a member of Romance Writers of America.
She is a past finalist in Romance Writers of America’s prestigious Golden Heart Contest, and while living in Boston, she took videography classes, after which she wrote, produced, directed and edited two documentaries, one of which was nominated for an award. In L.A., she took classes in TV production and worked on an independent study.
She can be found on Facebook, LinkedIn, Goodreads, Pinterest and Instagram as well as her website, www.heatherames.com. In 2019, she reissued two books after one of her publishers closed and launched “Swift Retribution,” the 3rd book in her mystery/suspense series, based in Florida.
Heather’s credits include long and short fiction, articles, blogging, and videography. Due to the ever-changing and shrinking world of small publishers, she was forced to jump into the self-publishing arena three years ago. She moderates a highly-successful (12 books published) online critique group that has been exchanging manuscripts for over 10 years, and has even dabbled in screenplay writing. She also provides conceptual editing and coaching services.
