Is this a muffin or a cupcake? Poetry and prose are both subject to the same conundrum of taxonomy. But if you’re writing short stories, novels, and memoirs, are you considering what in the recipes of poetry can help make your work shine? Poet Armin Tolentino will share ideas for when elements more commonly associated with the craft of poetry can be utilized by prose writers to sharpen imagery, shape the work’s sonic atmosphere, and inspire moments of surprise and momentum for the reader.
Armin Tolentino is the author of the poetry collection We Meant to Bring It Home Alive (Alternating Current Press 2019). He earned his MFA at Rutgers University in Newark, NJ and his poetry has appeared in journals including Arsenic Lobster, Hyphen Magazine, and The Raven Chronicles. More info at www.armintolentino.com.
