Salem: Using a Hybrid-publisher with Linda Atwell

April 18, 2018 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Hybrid Publishing

Hybrid Publishing is a term that covers a lot of different variations. Come learn more about this middle ground between traditional and self-publishing. Is this this option right for you?

Join us to find out!

On Wednesday, April 18th, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. (talk begins at 7 p.m.), Linda Atwell will present to our chapter about hybrid publishing at the Salem Public Library (Anderson Room B), 585 Liberty St SE.

After seven years of submitting to agents, publishers, and small presses (and receiving many lovely, personalized rejection letters), Linda Atwell decided to try hybrid publishing. She considered all her options, then submitted her manuscript to She Writes Press—a publishing company “of women and for women” that publishes novels, memoirs, and non-fiction self-help books. Ultimately, she selected this press because of their upstanding reputation and because several memoir-writing friends had already achieved some success using this method to get their memoirs published. Atwell will be speaking on the best, worst, and challenging parts of this journey—which consists of a mixture of emotions and learning curves necessary to get your story out in the world. So, are you willing to green-light, i.e. turn your manuscript into a real live book by partnering with a publisher? How important is it to you for your book to appear on a local bookstore’s shelf? Are you willing to share in a greater portion of the profits in exchange for paying some publishing expenses upfront? If so, this session should answer many of your questions about publishing a memoir through a hybrid publisher.
