November Meeting with award-winning author Lauren Kessler
Willamette Writers Coast Branch is excited to host author Lauren Kessler, who will be presenting from 2:00-4:00 p.m. on January 17th at the Newport Public Library (McEntree Room).
A Little About Lauren Kessler
Lauren Kessler is an award-winning author, (semi) fearless immersion reporter and self-designated guinea pig journalist who combines lively narrative with deep research to explore everything from the seemingly romantic but oh-so-gritty world of ballet to the wild, wild west of the anti-aging movement, from the stormy seas of the mother-daughter relationship to the hidden world of Alzheimer’s sufferers.
Lauren Kessler’s Work
She is the author of nine works of narrative nonfiction, including her latest, Raising the Barre: Big Dreams, False Starts, My Midlife Quest to Dance The Nutcracker, as well as the Washington Postbestseller Clever Girl and Los Angeles Times bestseller The Happy Bottom Riding Club — which David Letterman, in fierce competition with Oprah, chose as the first (and only) book for the Dave Letterman Book Club. Kessler appeared twice on his iconic late-night show. She is also the author of Oregon Book Award winner Stubborn Twig, which was chosen as the book for all Oregon to read in honor of the state’s 2009 sesquicentennial.
