Afternoon Workshop: Self-Editing, Polishing, & Knowing When You Need Outside Help
This interactive workshop based on participants’ writing samples will teach you 15 helpful things to know for improving your writing and making your work ready for publication. Please bring one or two chapters of your work (printed out, double spaced) to work on.
Self-editing for dialog, description, and narration.
Creating your own style sheet.
Plot maps, character cards, and 16 solutions.

Morning lecture: 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Free to members, $10.00 visitors
Afternoon workshop: 1:30 – 4:30 p.m. $30.00 for members, $35.00 for guests ($40 for whole day)
Jill Kelly, PhD, is a freelance editor and writer. Her most recent novel is When Your Mother Doesn’t (April 2015, Skyhorse, New York). She is the author of two other novels, The Color of Longing (3 Cats Press, 2013) and Fog of Dead Souls (Skyhorse, 2014). Her memoir, Sober Truths: The Making of an Honest Woman, was a finalist for the Oregon Book Award. She is a frequent presenter at the Willamette Writers Conference on editing and a spokesperson for enhanced creativity for people in recovery. She has been helping writers move their books to completion for over 20 years.
