Workshop: Get Ready to Publish – Self-editing, Polishing, and Knowing when You Need Outside Help

At the Salem Public Library (Anderson Room B)
In this 3-hour interactive workshop Jill Kelly will teach you how to improve your writing and make your work ready for publication.
Participants will be invited to send 1-2 double-spaced pages in a Word document to the instructor before February 2nd. The instructor will base the workshop exercises on the submitted writing samples. There is no charge for this service. Sign up by February 2nd to take advantage of this offer and early bird pricing!
We will cover:
- Plot maps
- Character cards
- Creating your own style sheet
- Self-editing at the sentence level, including: dialog, description, and narration
- 50 questions/16 solutions
Please bring one or two chapters of your own work (printed out, double-spaced) to work on.

About Jill Kelly
Jill Kelly, PhD, is a freelance editor and writer. Her most recent novel is When Your Mother Doesn’t (April 2015, Skyhorse, New York). She is the author of two other novels, The Color of Longing (3 Cats Press, 2013) and Fog of Dead Souls (Skyhorse, 2014). Her memoir, Sober Truths: The Making of an Honest Woman, was a finalist for the Oregon Book Award. She is a frequent presenter at the Willamette Writers Conference on editing and a spokesperson for enhanced creativity for people in recovery. She has been helping writers move their books to completion for over 20 years.

$30 for Willamette Writers Members who register on or before February 6, 2016
$40 for Willamette Writers Members who register after February 6 but before February 21, 2016

$40 for Nonmembers who register on or before February 6, 2016

$60 for Nonmembers who register on February 21, 2016 (pay at the event)
Please note that if you sign up after February 2nd you may not be able to submit your writing sample to Jill.

Is my registration transferrable to another Salem Chapter activity?
Yes, it is. Note that you can send someone in your place or request a refund before or on February 13, 2016. See info below.
The name on the registration/ticket doesn’t match the attendee. Is that okay?
Yes. In case you need send someone in your place, please let us know as soon as you can.
What is the refund policy?
In case you need to cancel, please let us know as soon as you can. Please, no refund requests after February 13, 2016.
Can I pay at the door?
Yes. The price is $50 for Willamette Writers members and $60 for nonmembers.
Can I join Willamette Writers now and enjoy the special pricing for members?
You sure can! When you select your ticket you’ll have the option to add membership to your order.
Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?
You DO NOT have to as we will have a list of attandees.
