From Passable to Polished: How to self-edit your manuscript BEFORE you hire an editor

Saturday, 5 December 2015, 1:00-3:00 pm

Stellaria Community Rooms, 150 Shelton McMurphy Drive

$30 members/$45 nonmembers

Everyone needs an editor. Even editors need editors. But, in order to save yourself a considerable amount of money, and your editor’s sanity, you can do some self-editing before handing it over.

Join Valerie for two hours of tips, tricks, must-do’s, and—if there’s time—an anonymous peer editing session. Bring five copies of up to five pages of your manuscript, double-spaced, without your name on them.

Valerie Willman is the author of Smell the Blue Sky: Young, pregnant, and widowed, winner of the BRAG Medallion for Top Indie-Published Books. She co-chairs the Mid-Valley Chapter of Willamette Writers and teaches various workshops on writing, and on grief, such as “Booze and Chocolate Aren’t the Only Ways to Cope: Turning negative emotions into art.” She’s a successful freelance editor and proofreader through her company, Yellow Pen Editing, and is also a certified bereavement facilitator, and licensed massage therapist.

Valerie has served in the United States Army, owns land in Costa Rica, and lives with three big dogs, two teenagers, and one Turk. She’s walked the length of two marathons—on purpose—and loves olives, chai, and chocolate.
