Corvallis: September Open Mic
September 23 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm
September Open Mic
Reading your work or work-in-progress gives you the opportunity to hear and to be heard. Does the audience sigh? Do they gasp? Do they laugh outright? Does the page read smoothly for you? In other words, does your writing bring the audience into your experience successfully? Come read for applause and explore the effectiveness of your creation.
At the WWotR Summer Open Mic, anyone who signs up at the front table may participate. However, the number of readers is limited, so if you want to read, arrive at the venue as soon after 6:15 PM as possible. Each person has 7 minutes which includes any set-up or side conversations with the audience. Thank you for adhering to your allotted time.
Most of our meetings require a small admission fee for non-members, but the open-mic readings are free and open to everyone. All genres are welcome. Please choose family-friendly work.No graphic violence, sex, or hate speech.
A few tips to help make your performance a success:
• Practice out loud (it really helps!)
• Time yourself beforehand.
• Double-space your work and use a large, clear font
• Speak clearly.
And of course
, an audience is also needed. So if you don’t want to read, please come hear some talented writers from your community present their work.
