“Reading and Writing Prose Poetry”: Willamette Writers Monthly Workshop with Steve Jones
Willamette Writers Coast Branch continues its free Writers-on-Writing workshops on Tuesday, November 20, 2012, at the Newport Public Library from 7-8:30 pm with Steve Jones leading a workshop on reading and writing prose poetry. Jones has a fun and educational evening planned and attendees can look forward to reading several pithy prose poems and trying their hand at playfully writing one or two. Says Jones, “We’ll look at several letter poems, exploring the ground where prose and poetry overlap and we’ll briefly play with fractured Valentines in preparation for the February V-day.”
Steve Jones is the founding Co-Director of the Oregon Writing Project at Willamette University, has directed the four week intensive Summer Institute for twenty kindergarten through college teachers for fifteen years and presents writing workshops at OWP, NWP, OCTE, NCTE, ORA and other conferences. He is mostly retired from years of teaching college essay writing at Chemeketa, WSU, OSU, Sprague and West Salem High Schools. Steve’s essays, stories and poems have appeared in Calapooya Collage, Oregon State Poetry Association winners anthologies, Dragonfly, Eloquent Umbrella, Fireweed, Greenfield Review, Manzanita Review, Northwest review, Oregon English Journal, Oregonian, OSU Prism, Quickfiction, Slackwater Review, Willamette Journal of Liberal Arts and others.
