Master Class: Eric Witchey — “Achieving Fiction Fluency”
Class is FULL
Achieving Fiction Fluency Master’s Class
A fun, fast-paced, information rich class.
For fiction writers, fluency is the ability to express fully-formed story without intermediate cognition. The instructor once wrote and sold a story in 45 minutes. That’s fluency, and it requires practice in the same way fluency in a second language requires practice. Just as English uses the Subject Verb Object pattern as the basis for writing and understanding the infinite number of possible sentences, readers rely on the writer’s mastery of recognizable, executable patterns. Fiction Fluency demonstrates core, executable patterns that impact deep emotional, and subsequent cognitive, understanding in readers. Students will walk away with practical tools for recognizing, managing, and manipulating textual patterns readers use to internalize story—short or long. The tools and patterns presented have been designed based on principles of theoretical linguistics and cognitive science. The instructor has tested them by creating or revising stories that sold into 12 different genres. Bring a laptop with Word and Excel. Paper and pen will also do nicely, but Word and Excel will be better.
Eric Witchey is known for his ability to teach clear, useable skills that allow students to create saleable fiction. His seminars and classes grow out of his experience teaching at two universities, a community college, countless conferences, and many private seminars. Working in multiple genres, he has sold over 100 short stories and four novels into national and international markets. Writers of the Future, New Century Writers, Writers Digest, the Eric Hoffer Award Program, Short Story America, the Irish Aeon Awards, and a number of other organizations have honored his work. His how-to articles have appeared in The Writer Magazine, Writer’s Digest Magazine, and other print and on-line magazines.
