You will strategize how to make manuscripts stand out from the hundreds of others on an editor’s desk. You will discuss the power of the cover letter, how poems rub against each other through association or theme, and how to create sections that aren’t arbitrary. You will explore techniques to strengthen manuscripts by creating mini-manuscripts consisting of poems in a variety of orders. You will strategize to know where to send to, what to do upon acceptance and afterward. Through this conversation you will learn to scrutinize your own manuscripts the way editors do.
