What is back story and why does it matter. For instance, though characters *are* what they *do*, every action has to make sense in light of the character’s past. So when your character “surprises” you, as often happens,, how do you make sense of the surprise in terms of the character’s back story. How to reveal back story gradually and strategically, and avoid a “back story dump.” Managing multiple characters with back stories, braiding multiple timelines. Dealing with back story surprises.
