FiLMLaB Script-to-Screen Competition

FilmLabLogo-CtrW_NoLegsWbFiLMLaB started in 2012 initially as a replacement for the Actor’s and Writer’s Lab during the Willamette Writers Conference. It grew out of a desire to expand upon and promote the growing film industry in Portland, Oregon.

The Script to Screen Competition is the main focus of FiLMLaB. Screenwriters submit a seven page script, which is judged by industry professionals here in Portland for the first round, then sent to our judges in LA for the final round. The winning script is then produced by Willamette Writers and Ampersand Productions, and is premiered at the Willamette Writers Conference the first week of August.

Haley Isleib’s 2012 winning script, Alis Volat Propriis, was the first film out of the FiLMLaBoratory and took home the prize for Best Comedic Short at the 2013 Oregon Independent Film Festival, and was an Official Selection at the Mt. Hood Independent Film Festival.

Past judges of the competition include: Erik Bork (writer/editor of Band of Brothers), Stacy Chattaway (Executive Director of Development at LAIKA Entertainment), Zach Cox (Manager at Circle of Confusion – Walking Dead), Mary Cybriwsky (Manager/Producer at Scooty Woop Entertainment), Luke Ryan (Executive Vice President at Disruption Entertainment), Eric Williams (manager at Zero Gravity Management), Marilyn Atlas (manager at Marilyn Atlas Management), and Grace Ledding (producer at Agile Entertainment).

While FiLMLaB is still evolving, it has been met with enthusiasm from writers around the world, eager to participate in our unique experiment.

Because at FiLMLaB, the experiment is you.
