“Story Driven World Building”

Morning session: 10AM-12PM (free for members, $10 for guests) “World Building the Lazy Bastard Way”

Worldbuilding can feel like an overwhelming process. How do you create and convey a fictional world that is richly imagined and utterly convincing—without losing you or your reader in minutiae or spending two years working on maps and genealogy charts? Science fiction and fantasy author Fonda Lee explains how to go about worldbuilding in a way that’s intuitive and efficient (and not actually lazy). Regardless of whether you write speculative fiction or any other genre, you’ll come away with an understanding of 1) what makes for effective worldbuilding 2) why it’s important to have the story drive the world and not the other way around and 3) how to approach worldbuilding in a thorough yet efficient manner.

Afternoon workshop: 1:30PM-3:30 PM ($25 for members, $30 for guests) “Worldbuilding in Practice”

Building on the Lazy Bastard Way, participants will have a chance to put what they’ve learned to practice with writing exercises designed to stretch your creative muscles and help you improve whatever world you’re building in your own work.

I am wondering if this a pay at the door workshop, or is the visitor fee needed before hand?
