Morning Presentation: “Why the History of Publishing Matters”
10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Free to members, $10.00 visitors
From the time of Gutenberg, and before, publishing has been a business, affected by economies of scale, technological solutions, author-publisher relationships, marketing, distribution, and legal issues. Often it is the case that the more things change, the more they stay the same. Learn how the history of book publishing has come to be what it and how you can position yourself to be ready for the next wave of changes.
- How to anticipate where publishing is going
- How to understand what publishers need
- How to make the most of what you have to offer
Afternoon Workshop: “The Long Game in Writing”
1:30 – 3:30 p.m. $25.00 for members, $30.00 for guests ($35 for whole day)
Most books published today sell less than 100 copies. The long game in writing is about setting smart, realistic personal goals as a writer and discovering what you enjoy about the writing life, and discovering. Everyone needs a writing plan for the long haul, so you’ll learn how to set goals to complete and manage writing projects, to grow as writers, and to make your writing life an adventure rather than an ordeal.
- Setting the right goals
- Making your work count
- Finding fulfillment as a writer
