Young Willamette Writers Portland Monthly Meeting
May 2 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Read Like an Editor
All book lovers know how amazing it feels to get swept away by a great story. Why are some books impossible to put down, while others get abandoned or even thrown down in frustration? Editors make it their job to spot specific strengths and weaknesses in stories, and to help make fiction irresistible. Join veteran children’s book editor Abby Ranger for a workshop about the top ten bothersome issues that editors often notice in first drafts, and learn how to catch them and fix them in your own writing.
Abby Ranger is a senior editor at HarperCollins Children’s Books. She acquires middle grade and young adult novels, and occasional picture books. Previously, she held editorial posts at Scholastic and Disney-Hyperion. Abby is proud to work with Cinda Williams Chima, Amie Kaufman, Adam Lehrhaupt, Linda Sue Park, and Obert Skye, among other acclaimed authors. She was born in Colorado, grew up in British Columbia, lived in New York City for twelve years, and currently works East Coast hours from her home office in Portland.
Young Willamette Writers in Portland meets at the same time and place as the adult Willamette Writers meetings, normally on the first Tuesday of the month from September through June. We meet from 7 – 8 pm at The Old Church in downtown Portland at SW 11th and Clay.
Please understand that schedules can change and we do our best to keep you informed.
