Adding Humor to your Writing with Mark Saunders
Rescheduled due to popular demand!
On Saturday, April 1st, 2017, at the Central Point City Hall Council Chambers, Southern Oregon Willamette Writers will host published author and accomplished speaker Mark Saunders, who will present “Adding humor to Your Writing.”
Morning session: “15 Ways of Adding Humor to your Writing”
10 a.m. – 12 p.m. (free for members, $10 for guests)
Whether you are working on an essay, a novel, a memoir, or a response to an invitation to your ex-spouse’s next wedding (sarcasm can be quite effective). From punching up dialogue to creating memorable characters, this workshop will help guide you through the funhouse mirrors of writing humor. To twist Joseph Conrad’s famous line, this workshop’s task, before all, is to make you see … humor.
Afternoon workshop: “Even MORE ways of adding humor”
1:30PM-3:30 PM ($25 for members, $30 for guests)
Building on the 15 ways of adding humor, participants will do a series of writing exercises, including: Analogies, Banter, The Mash-up, Speaking Nonsense in Three Words, Comedy is a Man (or Woman) in Trouble, and The Rant
Participants will be encouraged to bring a sample of a humorous piece they’re working on for group discussion
